Frequently asked questions
How are the player ratings calculated?
Each player and coach has an Elo rating updated after every match using a Davidson three-way model (win/draw/loss), adjusted for opponent strength and minutes played. A team's strength is the aggregate of whoever actually played, so ratings reflect real contribution rather than reputation.
What is EAR (Elo Above Replacement)?
EAR = Elo Above Replacement, football's version of baseball's WAR (Wins Above Replacement). Every rated match scores a player against the average performance for their position: better adds to EAR, worse subtracts. EAR180 adds up the last 180 days (current form); EAR career adds up every rated match. Our predictions add EAR180 to a player's Elo, about 37 Elo points per EAR point. Keeping it separate from the base Elo means the base rating stays a stable measure of quality while EAR captures streaks.
How often are ratings updated?
Daily — the ratings refresh after each day's fixtures, and the API serves the same numbers shown on the site. Every rating also carries full match-by-match history and 28-day movement.
Does the API rate coaches too, and is there a free tier?
Yes to both. Coaches are rated on the same Elo scale as players, and the free tier gives you 500 requests a month with no credit card across every endpoint. Paid plans start at €19/month.
